Deliciouslyorkshire Awards 2009-10
Designed to recognise and celebrate the very best of all things food and drink in Yorkshire and Humber, the awards especially honour the champions working across the region’s industry – whether producing, selling or cooking our glorious food. Together you make the region the very best place for purchasing and consuming locally-produced food of unsurpassed quality.
Yorkshire and Humber is a world-leading centre of excellence with more than 1,100 food and drink producers, employing around 55,000 people and with a combined turnover in excess of £8bn.
These include some of the world’s best-known food companies as well as the highest concentration in the UK of small, passionate enterprises delivering innovative products with fewer than 50.
Every year competition gets tougher and this year our team of experts had the unenviable task of whittling down another record breaking 268 entries (40% up on last year) to a shortlist of just 52 members across 20 categories. New for this year are the Outstanding Newcomer and the Cheese Award – reflecting the healthy state of the food and drink sector and our cheese-making prowess.
Our robust judging process for 2009-2010 involved:
- More than 550 miles mystery shopping
- 550 products labelled
- 25 expert judges
- 112 hours judging
- Tasted 16 pies, pasties & quiches, 15 beers, 21 cakes, buns and brownies!

Sponsor Rollits
The Deliciouslyorkshire champion of the year 2009-2010 award is presented to the person who has, in the judges’ opinion, done most to promote food and drink from the region above and beyond their own remit.
The 2009-2010 winner has distilled their passion and dedication into promoting and supporting local produce, influencing and inspiring staff, customers and young people alike.
Winner of numerous accolades, this person shouts about provenance and seasonality and has selflessly fought to get the message out for years. This person flies the Deliciouslyorkshire flag at events throughout the region such as the International Business Forum in Scarborough and the Great Yorkshire Show and is a real trouper! And who cannot not be influenced by her when she delivers the message with such a great sense of humour and fun!
It is part of who she is and she now carries that forward into her new role at Leeds Thomas Danby College. We are lucky to have her here inYorkshire
Oh and she’s a great chef as well!
