PLEASE ENSURE YOUR PRODUCTS ARE AT THE RFG OFFICES BY 2PM ON MONDAY 23RD AUGUST
All of the products in the product categories are rigorously tested by our expert judges. All of the winners will receive their award at the ceremony. You may enter multiple categories and several products in each category. The winner of each product category is then shortlisted for the deliciouslyorkshire Supreme Product 2010-2011 category.

All products will be judged on taste and supporting evidence. All tasting will be done blind and marked on appearance, aroma, taste and texture. Allocation of marks will be awarded in the following areas:

  • Blind tasting — 60%
  • Evidence of use of provenance in marketing materials and company information — 15%
  • Overall appearance of product, including packaging if applicable — 10%
  • Evidence the product is grown, reared and/or processed in the region using quality ingredients, and where possible sourced from the region — 10%
  • Evidence of effective Quality management Systems, such as HACCP, SALSA and BRC — 5%

deliciouslyorkshire Breakfast Scheme

Awarded for commitment to, and creative use of, regional produce on breakfast menus – most able to demonstrate the following:

  • The number of locally sourced or homemade ingredients on the breakfast menu
  • The choice of dishes to suit each guest
  • Use of deliciouslyorkshire branding on menu, website and marketing materials

Best Use of Regional Produce: Café / Tearoom

Awarded to the café or tearoom that most can clearly demonstrate their commitment to regional produce. This category will be judged on the following:

  • Sustained use of regional produce on menu (farm gate to plate, seasonality)
  • Amount of regional food as a total of the menu
  • Evidence of use of regional food (provide a list of suppliers)
  • Most creative and innovative menu, please supply examples of menu(s)
  • Effective communications of sourcing policy to guests

A shortlist of entrants will be visited for judging of the quality and presentation of the menu, staff knowledge and customer experience.

Best Use of Regional Produce: Restaurant / Hotel / Pub / Inn

Awarded to the Restaurant, Hotel, Pub or Inn that most successfully demonstrates their commitment to, and creative use of, regional produce. This category will be judged on the following:

  • Sustained use of regional produce on menu (farm gate to plate, seasonality)
  • Amount of regional food as a total of the menu
  • Evidence of use of regional food (provide a list of suppliers)
  • Most creative and innovative menu, please supply examples of menu(s)
  • Effective communications of sourcing policy to guests

A shortlist of entrants will be visited for judging of the quality and presentation of the menu, staff knowledge and customer experience.

Best Retailer of Regional Products

Awarded to the retailer most able to demonstrate achievements in the following areas:

  • Commitment to prioritising the listing of regional products
  • Effective point of sale to promote regional products
  • Effective merchandising
  • Knowledgeable and friendly staff
  • High standards of service
  • Production of quality own label products (if applicable)

All entrants will be visited by a mystery shopper prior to judging.

deliciouslyorkshire Award for Innovation

Awarded to the company that achieves the highest rating for innovation within their business; areas to consider include:

  • Product – explain the rationale behind innovative products developed within the last 12 months, clear USP, use of new and emerging technology, simple and recognisable ingredients
  • Packaging – reduction of packaging, environmental impact, innovative design
  • Process – introduction of new techniques and processes, with quantifiable business improvement as a result
  • Environmental impact – in relation to all aspects of your business including transport, manufacture, packaging, waste handling etc.
  • Staff training and development

deliciouslyorkshire Award for Outstanding Newcomer

All entries submitted by companies established in or after June 2008 will be automatically considered for this award. The judges will be considering evidence of:

  • Quality – accreditation, company ethos, sustainability policies, product
  • Impact made – sales, awards won, PR, marketing
  • Potential to succeed – business plan, sales forecasts

All entrants will be visited by a mystery shopper prior to judging.

deliciouslyorkshire Champion

Now in its fourth year, the deliciouslyorkshire Champion award was created to celebrate an individual who has contributed significantly to the food and drink industry, helping to promote the fantastic food and drink in Yorkshire & Humber. We welcome any suggestions and the winner is chosen by our expert judging panel.

Supreme Product

The Supreme Product is the winners’ winner! The winners from each category go forward for final judging to find the best one overall. The winner will be announced on the night.

Export Award

This is a new category, introduced to highlight our work in export and our promotion of the deliciouslyorkshire brand to foreign markets. The winner of this award will be the company best able to demonstrate the most innovative use of resources to achieve success and growth overseas.

How to Enter

As members, you are invited to nominate yourselves and tell us why your company deserves to be an award winner.

All entries, along with your entry fee, must be returned to the Regional Food Group by Friday 13th August. The entry fee for one award is £30 + VAT and £10 + VAT for all subsequent entries.
