NHS Meet the Producer
18/11/2009
Food producers from across Yorkshire and Humber are being given the opportunity to showcase their products to buyers and caterers from the region’s NHS trusts in an event organised by the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber.
Over 37 trusts have been invited to the exclusive event which is aimed at helping to put more local, fresh produce on the menus of hospitals across the region.
Mel Towler, Supply Chain Manager at RFG, said: “No one can dispute the bad press that hospital food has had over the years but we’re trying to help change this. This event will highlight to NHS buyers how much wonderful, fresh food is available on their doorstep and we hope that it will influence them when it comes to choosing the source of their food.”
Winning a contract to supply the NHS can be a tremendous boost to business, indeed some RFG members are already on the approved suppliers list.
Earlier this year It’s Nut Free – manufacturer of cakes, cereal bars, snack bags and chocolate – won its fourth contract to supply the NHS supply chain.
Angela Russell, founder of the company, said: “Becoming an approved supplier for the NHS has been brilliant for our business. I first met one of their buyers at a Regional Food Group event so I can’t emphasise enough to other companies out there how beneficial these opportunities are.
“We now provide the NHS supply chain with bespoke products which include flapjacks for their coffee shops and patients and cereal for patients.”
It’s Nut Free will be amongst 30 other producers who will be available to meet with NHS buyers at the coming event, some of which include: – Seabrook Crisps – Blue Keld Springs Ltd (natural mineral water) – Grandma Wilds Biscuits – Sykes House Farm Ltd (supplier of top quality meat and poultry). – Fosters Bakery – GW Price (wholesale fruit and potato merchants and importers).
The event takes place in the Bramham Hall Suite at Wetherby Racecourse on 18th November from 11 am – 3 pm. For more information or if you wish to attend please contact Mel Towler at the Regional Food Group on 07976 533318 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
