The Yorkshire & The Humber Rural Affairs Forum is looking at the Strategy in depth at its meeting on 9th February. In particular, the Forum will consider the challenges and opportunities around the food agenda in the Region - with a view to ensuring that this important issue and the needs of our area are fully reflected in policy and programmes.

The Discussion Groups are structured around the six core issues which underpin the Government’s Strategy for a Secure Food System - Food 2030.
They are -
Encouraging people to eat a healthy, sustainable diet - facilitated by Shelagh Marshall, various positions relating to health and older people & Sarah Knapper, Research Director, Regional Food Group Yorkshire and Humber.
Ensuring a resilient, profitable and competitive food system - facilitated by Tony Lomax, Strategic Sector Champion - Food & Drink, Yorkshire Forward.
Increasing food production sustainably - facilitated by Richard Ellison, Regional Director, National Farmers’ Union - Yorkshire.
Reducing the food system’s greenhouse gas emissions - facilitated by David Shaw, Advocacy and Partnerships Manager, Natural England.
Reducing, reusing and reprocessing waste - facilitated by Councillor Symon Fraser, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Waste, Recycling, Strategic Highways and Planning, East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Increasing the impact of skills, knowledge, research and technology - facilitated by Kevin Kendall, Assistant Principal Higher Education, Bishop Burton College.
